The workpiece is delivered into the machine and aligned with the die for the application of pressure. The pressure delivered to the die is more consistent than what mechanical milling machines produce. Pressure and speed parameters can be adjusted to accommodate the metal type. Hydraulic machines, like other milling equipment, are available in various sizes to facilitate the manufacturing process.

Mechanical Servo

Until recently, the only option to increase a press's tonnage was to build a larger press with a larger motor or flywheel, a costly procedure. The engineers that created the press chose to improve it by omitting the motor, flywheel, and clutch in favor of a servo motor that focused entirely on the required energy.

Servo presses provide greater control over the stroke and slide position, which opens up various possibilities. By substituting a servo motor for a flywheel, torque can be given via a controlled and programmed system that adjusts the speed to fit the application's velocity, dwell, and stroke.

Mechanical servo presses can produce complex stampings faster than hydraulic presses, powered by either a link-assisted drive system or a direct drive system. The mechanical servo press is the newest and most expensive of the three types of presses listed. Despite the cost disadvantage, numerous manufacturers have implemented mechanical servo presses and discovered them to be more efficient and cost-effective.
