Catherine Maguire serves as the director of exploration at Lundin Mining Corporation. Directing the global basemetals exploration portfolio, she oversees multi-million-dollar drilling programs to extend mine lives and applies advanced geoscience techniques to discover and develop high-value mineral assets.
Leadership from Field to Feasibility
Maguire is a registered professional geoscientist whose career spans more than two decades of global exploration and mining projects. Before joining Lundin Mining as the director of exploration, she held senior technical and leadership roles on multidisciplinary teams across six continents, overseeing geological, geophysical and geotechnical engineering studies. Maguire’s early career included tenure with a major international consultancy, where she led resource delineation programs for base and precious metals in Europe and Africa, and managed feasibility‐stage field campaigns in remote terrains.

Throughout her professional journey, Maguire has demonstrated a talent for integrating advanced geoscientific techniques, such as 3D seismic interpretation and structural modeling, with cross‐ cultural team development, successfully driving projects from initial target generation through to pre‐feasibility study stages.
Accelerating Discovery with Advanced Geoscience
In her present role, Maguire directs a global exploration portfolio focused on base metals, including copper, gold, nickel and PGM targets. Under her leadership, Lundin Mining plans to invest approximately USD 40 million in 2025 on in‐mine and near‐mine drilling programs across key operations, with 18,000 metres of drilling slated for Caserones, 18,000 metres at Candelaria, and 20,000 metres at Chapada to define new resources and extend mine lives.
Maguire’s expertise encompasses geological modeling, project evaluation and resource estimation, which have been instrumental in advancing Lundin Mining's exploration portfolio. Her leadership has contributed to the identification of significant mineral resources, aligning with the company's strategic growth objectives.
Beyond her technical contributions, Maguire is committed to actively participating in mentorship programs and serving on advisory boards aimed at supporting women in mining. underscores her influential role in shaping the future of mineral exploration.
Earlier this year, she played a key role in announcing the initial mineral resource at the Filo del Sol project, a 50:50 joint arrangement with BHP, highlighting one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper, gold and silver deposits. This generational discovery ranks in the top 10 globally for contained copper and underscores Maguire’s ability to advance greenfield opportunities into high‐value assets.
Maguire also champions the integration of cutting‐edge geoscience techniques, such as 3D geological modeling, geometallurgical studies and machine‐learning applications, to refine targeting and optimize drill programs. Catherine Maguire continues to expand Lundin Mining’s pipeline of high-quality projects and reinforce its strategic growth trajectory in the global base metals sector.
