Steel Vs. Stainless Steel

The magnetic characteristics of steel and stainless steel are what distinguish them. Steel is highly magnetized, whereas stainless steel is devoid of any magnetic characteristics. It is because steel is a ferrous metal, which means it contains iron (and hence is ferromagnetic); on the other hand, stainless steel is a non-ferrous metal, which means it does not contain iron and thus, has no magnetic qualities.

Stainless steel has a higher melting point than other steels and is known to resist corrosion. As a result, it's commonly found in things like healthcare equipment, food manufacturing, automobiles, and building projects. Steel, on the other hand, will be found in more everyday items like hangers and appliances.

Although both steel and stainless steel are recyclable, separating them is still a worthwhile activity due to the possible price and final worth difference.

Steel has tremendously high recycling rate, both in terms of the steel itself and in terms of the byproducts used in the manufacturing process. Each year, nearly 69 percent of steel in the United States is recycled, and this number rises when specific steel products are considered. Steel recycling saves about 74 percent of the overall energy consumption in production from raw materials. It helps to preserve the natural resources and prevent high emissions of greenhouse gases.

Economic Impact

When manufacturing is done with recycled resources, the cost of production is dramatically reduced. Rather than engaging through the costly process of obtaining raw ore from the ground, steel allows for the use of totally repurposed materials. According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, the steel recycling process creates over 531,000 employment and generates over $110 billion in economic activity.
